(Pennsylvania/Maine, 1839-1929) Study for the Capture of the Confederate Ram Atlanta, by the US Monitor Weehawken, circa 1871, signed verso "X.S." and titled, oil on card, 4 x 6 in.; modern gilt wood and composition frame,. Notes: Harold Holzer and Frank J. Williams, in the [The Grand Review] state, "Artist Xanthus Smith, one of the few Civil War marine painters who actually served aboard ship during the conflict...,here skillfully portrays the capture of the Ironclad CSS Atlanta. The ship surrendered to the Union monitors [Weehawken] and [Nahant] on June 17, 1863 after a brief engagement in Wassaw Sound near Savannah, Georgia. Literature: Harold Holzer and Frank J. In house shipping.  Brunk Auctions provides in-house shipping via UPS Ground (signature required) for many items. Brunk Auctions will provide a shipping quote which includes shipping, materials, labor and insurance.  Insurance is based on the selling price and premium.

Shipping arrangements are made only after the invoice is paid.  The payment for shipping is a separate charge from payment of your lots.

Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North  Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
