Portrait Bust of Abraham Lincoln after Leonard Volk (Illinois/Wisconsin, 1828-1895), [Manufacture nationale de Sèvres], early 20th century, signed impressed "S" Sèvres rounded verticle rectangular mark on truncation, incised maker's initials "L.S.", socle with early 20th century underglaze mark, hard-paste biscuit porcelain on with cobalt blue-glazed and gilt socle, 23 in.. Notes: Another example of this rare bust is held by the White House Collection/White House Historical Association. It was likely created in commemoration of the centennial of Abraham Lincoln's birthday. Sevres’s new hard-paste biscuit porcelain was introduced in the 1880s. Although it shares visual properties with English parian porcelain, the Sevres directors insisted it was a material distinct from parian.
