made in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania late 1850's to early 1860's, octagonal rifled 38-1/2 in. barrel, .41 caliber,ÿback action lock plate and top of barrel marked "TRUITT BROS & CO", ornate brass patchbox with game bird engravings and open side work, ornate brass plate under stock with patchbox release, brass trigger guard, butt plate, and incised forearm plate, delicate engraved metal sideplate, curly maple half stock with checkered wrist and other inset pieces of metalwork, overall length 53-1/2 in.ÿ - Provenance: From the Collection of Ashley Halsey, Jr., Alexandria and Spotsylvania, Virginia

Condition

condition consistent with age and use, barrel with dark old patina, pitting and oxidation, minor areas of rust to right end of barrel, dark patina to lock plate, other metal surfaces with dings, scratches, signs of wear, and oxidation, barrel is slightly loose from stock with movement, stock with dings scratches and wear, possible repair to stock at side plate and trigger guard, associated crack to other side of trigger guard, chip to stock at butt plate, heavy wear to wood around barrel tang and hammer, possible alterations
Purchased items not picked up in Richmond by noon on Sunday will then be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
