Columbia, South Carolina, circa 1852, .69 caliber, round smoothbore 42 in. barrel, "V" and "P" and other hallmark near left side of barrel flat, lock plate marked "PALMETTO ARMORY" around a palm tree, and "S" and "C" with a five point star in between, "COLUMBIA S.C. 1852" stamped behind hammer, "SC" stamped on buttplate adjacent to screw, top of buttstock stamped with what appear to be a "C", "F" and "15", black walnut full stock, barrel bands, bayonet lug, sling mounts, ramrod, overall length 57-3/4 in.ÿ - Provenance: From the Collection of Ashley Halsey, Jr., Alexandria and Spotsylvania, Virginia
oxidation, minor rust, some pitting, minor dents to metal surfaces, stock with scratches, dings, chips, and general wear, small split in grain behind lock plate, action appears to function mechanicallyÿ
