possibly of German or Dutch make, circa mid 1700's,ÿ round 37 in. smooth bore barrel, likely "AR" and "Crossed Sword" hallmarks to left side of barrel, lock plate with some etching, large hammer cock and frizzen, incised serpentine ornate brass side plate, large brass butt plate, long decorative double finial brass trigger guard, brass ramrod furniture, sling mounts,ÿÿdark wooden stock with "scale" like carvings at grip, metal ramrod,ÿbrass front sight, overall length 52 in - Provenance: From the Collection of Ashley Halsey, Jr., Alexandria and Spotsylvania, Virginia

Condition

condition consistent with age, steel areas with heavy pitting and oxidation, brass areas with signs of wear and oxidation, evidence of old black paint to surfaces, stock with chips, scratches and dings, several long cracks to left side of stock measuring 6 and 9-1/2 in., 10-1/2 in. crack to right side of stock, associated crack around fore stock at brass ramrod thimble, other small crack to wood at side lock, possibly reconverted
