American, high relief casting of eagle with head to right, center medallion with Cincinnatus at sunrise, surrrounding motto, "SOCIETAS CINCINNATORUM INSTITUTA A D 1783", reverse medallion depicts three senators presenting sword to Cincinnatus, surrounding motto, "OMNIA RELINQUIT. SERVARE REMPUBLICAM" (He left everything to serve the Republic), tests 14 kt. to 15 kt., 45 mm. x 29 mm. (medal only), attached to blue and white ribbon, 15.5 grams gross weight, light wear, fading and wear to ribbon. Notes: Insignia of the Society of the Cincinnati began in 1783 as a hereditary society of officers of the Continental Army.
