Chest of Drawers
Piedmont or Western North Carolina, 1800-1810, walnut with yellow pine secondary, barber pole line and quarter round inlay with kite escutcheons, dovetailed straight bracket feet with double-spurred returns, rich brown color, three original locks, 47-1/2 x 38 x 18-1/2 in. brasses replaced, scattered minor patches at escutcheons and knot patches to case sides and top, cross central drawer with replaced bottom (part of original is present), minor infill at back edge of one case side, original feet and blocking with cracks and repairs including one foot facing with 1/2 in. strip patch, other scattered stains, cracks, flaws consistent with age and use. Notes: This chest of drawers is probably by the same hand as the miniature chest documented by MESDA which exhibits closely related molding and foot profiles (see S-14303).
