Portrait of Colonel James Duncan Graham (1799-1865), U.S. Corps of Engineers, circa 1860, unsigned, hand-retouched albumen print on paper, 8 x 6 in.; carved and gilt wood frame, metal spandrel, light fading; spandrel with some corrosion. Notes: A West Point graduate, Colonel James Duncan Graham is noted for directing the re-survey of the Mason-Dixon line just prior to the Civil War. He also served on the boundary commission for the United States and Canada and the United States and Mexico.
