belonged to Captain A. B. Payne, of the Black Horse Troop, 4th Virginia Volunteer Cavalry, Company H, 4-3/8 in., one with fragment of leather strap spurs in good condition, missing one strap and one poor condition with with lose. Notes: The 4th Virginia Volunteer Cavalry was a regiment for service in the Confederate States during the Civil War. Captain Payne was elected by the men to the position of Captain. He survived the war and became a distinguished member of the Warrenton Bar and Mayor of Warrenton, Virginia
