(Edgefield, South Carolina b. circa 1800 d. after 1873) attributed to Dave Drake, made at Lewis Miles Stoneware Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, likely circa late 1850s, runny mottled dark olive green glaze, short bulbous from, applied lug handles to shoulder, thick flared rim, shelf to rim interior, churn style lid with light brown to olive mottled glaze, scripted "LM" down left front shoulder of jar, inscribed "X" to right front shoulder of jar, 12 x 10-1/2 in.Note: Brunk Auctions sold a similarly glazed piece November 21, 2020, lot 355 signed "Dave" and dated "LM Dec. 13 1858" - Provenance: Private South Carolina Collection

glaze voids an anomalies as made, surface abrasions and wear, restoration to 7 in section of rim with hairline, associated restoration to right handle and shoulder of jar, 2-1/2 in. restoration to stabilized hairline at base edge with smaller radiating hairline, another 2 in. stabilized hairline at base edge with possible touch up and associated hairline, 3-1/2 in. stabilized hairline up from base, stabilized 6 in. meandering hairline up from base edge with restorations, base edge chips, hairline through entire base evident in interior, base edge chips and wear some as made, areas of illumination to lid
