(Edgefield, South Carolina b. circa 1800 d. after 1873) attributed to Dave Drake, made at Lewis Miles Stoneware Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, 1851, brownish olive alkaline glaze, some evidence of rutile runs, large dark brown and green glaze runs to back of jar, short rounded tilted back form, applied lug handles at shoulders, slightly curved neck to thick rim, "May 20, 1851" inscribed to upper right side shoulder, two slash marks to back of shoulder adjacent to handle, distinct fingerprint to bottom edge and another partial print, 11-3/4 x 10 in. - Provenance: Private South Carolina Collection
