serial number 27831 stamped in four different spots under frame, circa 1862, .44 caliber percussion revolver, cylinder engraved with The Naval Battle of Campeche inscribed " ENGAGED 16, MAY, 1843", cylinder also stamped "COLTS PATENT No. 26822", "BB", "PAT. SEPT. 10th, 1850", and "S", 8 in. barrel engraved "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA", frame below cylinder stamped "COLTS PATENT", engraved "S" to back of cylinder and behind brass trigger guard, four screw frame, walnut grip with cartouche on left side, overall length 14 in. - Provenance: From the Collection of Ashley Halsey, Jr., Alexandria and Spotsylvania, Virginia
overall patina consistent with age and use, scratches to barrel and external areas of gun, oxidation to areas of gun, dent to edge of cylinder, chip to edge of handle at gun butt, firearm appears to function mechanically
