Portrait of George B. Anderson, Cavalry Brigadier General of the Confederate States, 1862, signed verso "Wm G. Browne pinxt Nov 1862", oil on canvas, 36 x 29 in.; period gilt wood and molded plaster frame, 48 x 41 in.

Note: Born on April 12, 1831 in Orange County, North Carolina, Anderson was a career soldier. He is among six generals killed or mortally wounded at the Battle of Antietam in September of 1862. He died in 1862 at the age of 31, in Raleigh, North Carolina

His portrait has hung in the Hall ancestral home of the consignor in Belmont North Carolina since the 19th Century.

Condition

original stretchers and tacking edge, some loss at edges, crackle in lower 3rd of composition and small areas of loss, face has been cleaned skin with some retouch; frame with losses to molded decoration and some abrasions

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
