(Catawba County, North Carolina, 1827-1900) octagonal 39-3/4 in. barrel inscribed "W.E. Jones" between two decorative scrollwork flourishes, dated "Feb 1881" to left side of barrel, brass blade front sight, "V" cut rear sight, engraved lock plate with game scene and inscribed "...CHER, WARRANTED", likely maple half stock, brass butt plate, trigger guard, sidelock plate, thimbles and forend cap, wooden ram rod, overall length approximately 56 in.Note: For other examples of Jones's work refer to North Carolina Schools of Longrifles 1765-1865 by William Ivey pages 253-254 - Provenance: Private North Carolina Collection
condition consistent with age and use, new brass butt plate under stock, likely varnish to stock and illumination under black light, scratches and wear to barrel, likely varnish residue on barrel, dings, wear and scratches to stock, separations to wood grain around lock plate and butt stock, 4 in. separation in wood grain at forend, loss of barrel pin

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
