Alexandria area, 18th century, crest with scrolled ends above pierced splat, upholstered slip seat, on square legs with stretchers, through tenon construction, dark mellow old surface, 37-1/4 x 22 x 17 in.; Note: For closely related chairs with through tenon construction, spiral turned terminals, and other closely related details, see MESDAÿObject Database S-7364, S-5912, and S-5984. One of these chairs was owned by Charles Washington, brother of George Washington.

Condition

minor break and repair at crest rail attachment, old loss at one rear foot, slip seat replaced, cracks at front leg attachments (one significant), typical wear at stretchers, minor bumps and wear at crest rail scrolls, two small holes at center front of seat frame
