18th century, the upper case with geometric pierced pediment, two double paneled doors opening to shelved interior fitted with four drawers, lower case with fitted desk interior, over four gradated long drawers, top long drawer with dividers and early˜˜handwritten labels, oak and heavy yellow pine secondary throughout, 104-3/4 x 51-1/4 x 25-3/4 in.˜Provenance: A Virginia Institution

feet replaced, brasses replaced (no plugged holes), door panels likely restored (frames are largely intact, appear to retain original pierced brass escutcheons), back boards set with rose head nails (upper case undisturbed), some minor cracks at cornice, with some separations and minor patches at corners, very minor patches to fretwork,˜desk interior with two valences off but present, and one other probably restored, possibly lacking fittings for interior of prospect section, edge patch at fall board, one patch at case side (probably as made), upper case missing bed molding
