early 20th century, one armchair attributed to the Reverend Ben Davis, Blowing Rock, North Carolina, chip carved decoration and incised leaf and floral carving, arched back with heart motif centering branch with three carved initials "FL?"; together with bentwood example with plank seat, scalloped skirt, and traces of early black paint; two tier stand with traces of grain paint and metal wrapped circular top; largest 46 x 23 x 35 in. Ben Davis example in good condition with finish wear to arms, some later nailing, other typical shrinkage cracks and wear; bentwood example with early dry paint surface with some wear and losses, later nails at top of crest; side table with shrinkage cracks to top with edge wear and dents to metal applique, other surface distress
