Burslem, England (established 1815), large baluster footed forms with wide tapestry band around middle in gilt with pale blue and white glazes, flanked above and below with applied anthemion leaves, green ground at top and cobalt-blue foot, impressed Doulton seal, crown and lion, fragment of "Slater's Patent" mark, and "6917", with artist's initials inscribed, 13-3/4 in., [small chip in narrow brown band of one; and bulbous, long-necked form with tapestry abstract floral decoration on reservoir in gilt with pale green and white glazes, neck with cobalt-blue glaze, impressed Doulton seal, crown and lion, fragment of "Slater's Patent" mark, and "X5094", with artist's initials inscribed, 9-3/4 in., [anomalies as made]. Notes: John Slater (1844 - 1914) was the Art Director at Doulton & Co. Burslem from 1887 until his death in 1914. The ware marked "DOULTON & SLATERS PATENT" was made by use of a decorative technique in which fabrics were impressed into the clay surface.. Provenance: Private Asheville, North Carolina Collection
