British, 19th/early 20th century, two brass mounted traveling desks, each with hinged lid opening to black leather and gilt lined writing surface, hinged writing panels opening to two interior compartments, side compartments for writing tools and inkwells, larger example with engraved monogram "G(?)HA", interior secret compartment with panel concealing two small drawers, with key, 6-1/4 x 17-1/8 x 9-3/4 in.; smaller example with glass inkwell, 6 x 13 x 9-1/4 in.; inlaid document box, hinged lid opening to velvet lined interior, side carrying handles, with key, 8 x 16-3/4 x 12-1/2 in. - Provenance: Private Collection
all with scattered surface scratches, some bumps and small chips to edges; smaller lap desk with lock mechanism broken, occasionally prevents lid from closing completely; larger lap desk missing tabs to pull up writing panels, crack and separation through body of underside; document box with some losses to lower exterior panels, crack through top, some lifting and looseness to interior linings
Condition
Purchased items not picked up in Richmond by noon on Sunday will then be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
