Desk second half 19th century, paneled walnut fallboard opening to a fitted interior, lower case with single long drawer and turned legs, finger-jointed construction, hinged top opening to a hidden compartment, 58-1/2 x 35-1/2 x 31-3/4 in., crack at one hinge of fallboard and at one rear leg, patch and repair under long drawer, some restorations and distress to molding, other abrasions and minor repairs overall. Provenance: Note in interior drawer reads "This desk was used by George McOwens[?] in 1825 in his office at Ball & Bryan Sta.[?] where he kept records of his rice plantations"; Private Collection
