American or English, late 18th century, sword with 32 in. straight blade with full-length fullers, ornate silver guard, handle and pommel, leather scabbard with silver mounts, 39-1/4 in. blade with pitted areas. Notes: [The American Sword: 1775-1945] by Harold L. Peterson, shows a nearly identical guard and handle on page 15 of the "small swords" section. That sword is attributed to Thomas Spanow, Annapolis, 1764-1784.. Provenance: Former Collection of Cutter Davis, Charlotte, North Carolina
