Mahogany Side Chairs
Philadelphia, 1760-1780, each with pierced gothic splat over a blue damask-upholstered slip seat, molded square legs with stretchers, 38-1/4 in.; together with a very similar example in matching upholstery, 39 in., (seven chairs total), set of six appear to be nearly identical but some variation in Roman numerals at seat frames (thus possibly assembled), some with cracks at front legs at joint with seat frame, some later blocking in seat frames, break and repair at splat and crest with associated retouch, repairs and some replacements to medial stretchers, one other crest and splat with cracks, other scattered cracks and flaws, two slip seats are modern replacements.
