Note: This lot is accompanied by a photo certificate from Anna Klumpke inscribed "Tableau offert a Madame Louise Lagrolet nee ___de Labet/Hommage respecteur/Anna E. Klumpke"

Anna Klumpke was the student of Rosa Bonheur 1895. They formed a close personal and professional partnership in 1898. Klumpke lived with Bonheur at the Chateau de By until Bonheur's death in May 1899. It is possible that this painting may have been intended for the 1900 sale but was instead presented to the artist's niece, Mme. Louise Lagrolet.
