Note:This sculpture is a depiction of Gustave Lussi (1898-1993), a Swiss ski jumper. After suffering a nasty fall, which left the physical scars of an indentation on his skull and broken fingers, he became a figure skating coach. Lussi worked with Button and many other Olympic and World champions including Barbara Ann Scott, John Curry and Dorothy Hamill. Lussi's work with Button at Lake Placid, New York was instrumental in preparing him for World and Olympic competition. As a ski jumper, Lussi understood both flight and rotation principles. He had an analytical mind, breaking every movement down into each of its component parts.
