(Washington, 20th century) monumental glass vessel, 2003, naturalistic form in shades of purple and green, base with etched signature "Richard Royal 2003", 45-3/4 x 13 x 10 in., excellent condition, some wax residue at base. Notes: Richard Royal was one of Dale Chihuly's main gaffers for several years and gained international recognition as one of the most skilled and talented glassblowers in the studio glass movement. The consignor was for ten years a member of the Penland School of Crafts Board, Spruce Pine, NC, and had the opportunity to know many of the glass artists there and watch the creative process. Over numerous years, this consignor took a deep interest in traveling, meeting top artists, some in their studios and homes, others in gallery shows and began collecting important Art Glass in various venues within the U.S.A. and abroad..
