Mahogany Slant-Front Desk Newport, Rhode Island, late 18th century, fitted interior over four graduated drawers, dovetailed construction, poplar and chestnut secondary, original ogee bracket feet, 42 x 38-1/2 x 22 in.. Condition: refinished, patches and repairs at hinges with strip patch at bottom of fallboard, brasses replaced and with polish residue (appear to be period), other possible restorations to fallboard, original feet and most blocking with scattered patches and repairs, patches and repairs to drawer facings. Provenance: lower drawer interior with old label "This desk is the property of Eliza Greene Chace 20 days Aunt M. H.
