attributed to New Jersey, circa 1780, rich dark color with two drop leaves and oak gates, pierced corner brackets, molded square legs set with arched scalloped cross-stretchers, 28-1/2 x 22 x 32 in.; open 40 in.. Condition: good condition overall in old mellow surface, one corner bracket likely replaced, minor cracks to others, crack and separation to top, top lacking glue blocks and with strip patch at center (correcting shrinkage), scratches and surface distress especially to top. Provenance: F. J. Carey, Ambler, Pennsylvania; early label reads "Perpetual loan to 'Captain Jonathan Oliphant Chapter' by Mrs. William Can(?) Lawrence", apparently referring to DAR chapter in Trenton, New Jersey, organized in 1896 in honor of Captain Oliphant, who served in the Revolutionary War; Collection of Anne McPherson and the Late John Bivins, Jr.
