a one-page letter, Cumberland, (Georgia), dated December 21, 1782, written by Sam West (1730-1807) to the Governor of Georgia, John Martin (1730-1786), the letter is vouching for the character of two gentlemen, Mr. Charles Watts and Nath. Holdin, with a flag from East Florida, West was a liberal minister of the Massachusetts Standing Order, an 18th Century forerunner of New England Unitarianism. An ardent patriot during the American Revolution, he played a small but crucial role in the ratification of the United States Constitution, 9-1/4 x 7-1/4 in.
