The receipt records the history of the table: "The table was found at Newstead Plantation, on the North River off Mobjack Bay, Virginia. Newstead is the seat of the Todd family. The House is located near Mathews, in Gloucester County. The Plantation house is still standing. Mr. Percival Montague Hicks, a neighbor, noticed the table on the back porch at Newstead in 1934. Recognizing the table as an early Virginia piece, he purchased it from family members still living at Newstead Plantation. Mr. Hicks, now deceased, lived on Exchange Lane in Gloucester, Virginia. The table was inherited by Mr. Jamie Hicks, 8441 Exchange Lane, Glouceser, Virginia, from whom I purchased the piece on February 5, 2008."; Private Virginia Collection
