.45-70 Gov't cal., single shot, 32-5/8 in. barrel, barrel marked with "V/P/eagle head", breech block marked with "U.S./MODEL/1873", S/N 154723, lock plate marked with an eagle and "US/SPRINGFIELD", back barrel band stamped with "U", with a rare experimental triangular sliding type bayonet-ramrod, adjustable rear sight, metal butt plate with working latch, in good working order; Note:  approximately 1,000 of the Model 1880 Springfield's were produced and were fielded for testing; Provenance: The Estate of Thomas W. Wood of Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia

Condition

bayonet-ramrod does not slide, very little to no case color visible on breech block or tang, barrel with some pitting especially towards barrel and bayonet end
