with Signed Tins attributed to Jefferson County, 19th century, retaining original dry varnished surface and original punched and green-painted tins with punched signature for John Martin, dovetailed drawers, poplar secondary, leaf-carved skirt, interior of one drawer inscribed "Arthur Martin", 46-1/2 x 49-3/8 x 18-1/2 in.. Condition: excellent as-found condition with old dry varnished surface, loss and distress at top of divider for doors, possibly later glass pulls (each drawer facing with small central hole), top with some finish losses and stains, other typical surface wear, abrasions and minor paint losses, some light corrosion to tins. Notes: Tins probably by John C. Martin, b. 1846, Jefferson, County, Tennessee, son of Robert C. Martin, a Blacksmith who had numerous close neighbors who were listed as cabinetmakers in the 1860 census. John C. Martin had a son Arthur Martin. Purchased by the consigner directly from the Martin family, Jefferson County, Tennessee.
