attributed to William Little, Anson County, circa 1805, inlaid figured mahogany top with astragal drop leaves, over a single inlaid and dovetailed drawer, flanked by oval lightwood inlaid patera, on tapered legs with bellflower, line, and lozenge inlay, yellow pine secondary with oak gates, 29-1/4 x 20 x 31 in. - Note: This table is documented by MESDA - see file S-6420. The MESDA file notes that the table was "originally attributed by Henry Green to the Athens area of Georgia; reattributed to William Little on the basis of known work, construction, woods, inlay, measurements, etc. by Frank L. Horton and Brad Rauschenberg (see William Little file)." It was illustrated in Henry Green, Furniture of the Georgia Piedmont Before 1830, catalog no.63, before being reattributed to William Little. This rare and important eastern North Carolina table is distinguished by its refined bellflower, lozenge, and patera inlays. Works attributed to William little very rarely come to market, making this a unique opportunity to acquire a fully developed example of Little's work. The Mesda files record only three known pembroke tables by Little, two of which have bellflower inlay: this example, and one in the collections of Colonial Williamsburg, see acc. 2009.21. - Provenance: Private Georgia Collection
