Figural Jug
(Lawley, Alabama, 1904-1990), metallic reddish brown glaze with yellow speckles, applied facial features including pronounced brow with incised eyebrows and large nose, thick beard from chin to chest, incised garment decoration and hair at back of head, applied strap handle from shoulder to back belly of jug, flat rim, 8 in.. Condition: glaze voids and anomalies as made, glaze scratches, kiln debris, chip to goatee. Notes: Illustrated in [Alabama Folk Pottery] by Joey Brackner, page 178 on far left..
