[Popeye's 20th Anniversary], 1954, 32 story board drawings including title page from a series (unknown number), lacking star cameo appearances by Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Jimmy Durante, story by Isadore Klein, director, I. Sparber, animation Al Eugster and George Germanetti, produced by Famous Studios with King Features Syndicate, Inc., released by Associated Artists Productions, graphite, crayon, watercolor on paper, 8-1/2 x 11 in.; unframed,. Condition: toning, handling creases and grime, pin holes, small tears with losses at edges, stains, unmounted. Notes: Popeye is honored at a "Testimonial Dinner" with a grand opening in a formal venue. Cameos of Bob Hope, the announcer, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis and Jimmy Durante all serve to honor the now-famous Popeye. Sheet #15 starts with Popeye saying, "So I brung with me some highlights from me pichers…What made me famisk". The First Quickie highlight is derived from [Tops in the Big Top]. Popeye then introduces another "quickie", [Rodeo Romeo]. Bluto, annoyed at the attention Popeye is receiving steals away the "Spinach Cup", which, incidentally, is filled with spinach, and jams it over Popeye's head. In iconistic form, Popeye eats the spinach, escapes the loving cup and punches Bluto. The cartoon ends with the stars and Popeye singing "Popeye the Sailorman". Images within the story board drawings but not used in the film include #8 Bluto clapping (presumed as part of this group) and Bluto Blowing his 'lid' with his head drawn as a teapot.; Please Note: Brunk Auctions provides condition reports as a courtesy to our clients and assumes no liability for any error or omission.
