early 19th century, ten bands of the alphabet in various stitches over "Lydia C Mendenhall A17" (?), flowers, birds and swan lower panel, strawberry vine border, silk on linen, 17 x 12 in. (sight); later gilt wood frame. Condition: light fading. Notes: The maker is likely Lydia Carlton Mendenhall (1809-1894) she is listed as born in Greenwood, Pennsylvania and lived in Bloom, Columbia County, Pennsylvania. She and her husband Andrew Eves are listed as attending Quaker Meetings. Provenance: By family descent; Private Collection, Asheville, North Carolina
