Brussels, Flanders, first half 17th century, hunting scene set in a
landscape, at left foreground a wild boar attacks a twisting male figure, two dogs, a hound and greyhound, attack the boar, hunter with a spear attacks a wild boar as it attempts to leap away, two hounds also attack the boar, and a wounded dog is collapsed over a tree log, large vertical floral and foliate motif dividing the bloody hunting scenes, figures are clothed in Classical dress, in the distance the landscape continues with hills and buildings, birds including an exotic parrot perch on tree branches at left and at right one bird in flight, fluted serpentine columns with Corinthian capitals frame narrative, one segment on each column shows a figurative scene with curvilinear vines, and floral bunches suspended from the middle of columns, floral swags across top, thin bands of architectural motifs, dentil and egg and dart at uppermost and lowermost borders, 140-3/4 × 178-1/2 in. (11 ft. 8-3/4 in. x 14 ft. 10-1/2 in.); tapestry center left foreground are two hunters in Classical dress and four hounds attacking a bear, wounded dog is underneath the bear's foot, hunters are running toward the bear, one has a curvilinear spear, the other with sword in sheath at his waist, dog runs between the men, at center middle ground two cavaliers converse, one riding a horse, large parrot is prominently perched on a tree branch, background landscape with town in the distance, trees surround the scene, fluted serpentine columns with Corinthian capitals frame scene, one segment on each column shows a figurative scene with curvilinear vines, and floral bunches hang from the middle of the column, floral swags across top, thin bands of architectural motifs, dentil and egg and dart at uppermost and lowermost borders, 141-1/2 × 179-1/4 in. (11 ft. 9-1/2 in. x 14 ft. 11-1/4 in.)

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.

each with partial lower and upper border, lacking borders on both sides, boar hunt with good overall color but with some fading to center, surface losses, especially along lower edges, later linen backing; bear hunt with small scattered tears and losses along upper right corner and mid right border, probable areas of restoration throughout, both with remnants of threads verso from former hanging hardware, hanging hooks detached but present
