(attributed to Davis Brown, Arden, North Carolina, 1895-1967), largely black painted form with applied painted white eyes and inset red pupils, incised white eyebrows, mustache, and goatee, red accented eyelids, nostrils, lips and tongue, open mouth with two rows of broken china teeth, applied black ears, nose and horns, wart at left side of face, applied strap handle from shoulder to spout, stamped at left shoulder “Browns Pottery Handmade Arden, N.C.”, 21 in.,. Condition: abrasions to paint and surface throughout, restorations to horns, eyebrow, and goatee, loss to left ear and ends of horns, two cracks in rim interior, base edge chip and wear.
