probably 19th century, finely cast eagle with one claw perched on a cactus and the other clutching a snake, (a variation of the eagle on Mexico's national flag), silver over white metal, 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 in., wear, tarnish. Notes: Said to be a Mexican Officer's Hat Badge Captured by Amos Beebe Eaton ca. 1840s. Eaton was Zachary Taylor's chief commissary of subsistence during the Mexican War.
