Robert K. Johnson was known to patronize the very best dealers and galleries, sparing no expense to acquire great objects. Receipts for this Lotus table do not survive, but anecdotal provenance from people close to Mr. Johnson indicate that he purchased it at a gallery on Madison Avenue in New York between 69th and 70th St. sometime around the year 2000.
