likely made at the Thomas Chandler Pottery, Kirksey's Crossroads, Edgefield District, South Carolina, circa 1850-1852, large tapered ovoid form, light olive green alkaline glaze, applied kaolin slip looping banner decoration to front and back of jar, triple loop slip decoration under each applied 5 in. arched lug handle, stamped "CHANDLER MAKER" at shoulder under curved neck, semi round rim, likely 5 or 6 gallons, 17-1/2 in.

glaze voids and anomalies as made, surface wear and abrasions consistent with age and use, 1/2 in. chip to one handle, 1/4 in. glaze flake to exterior rim, old stable barely visible 3 in. hairline to lower body, pebble blowout on shoulder as made, glaze abrasions to lower body, minor wear and chips to base edge, firing line on base, two quarter size spots of residue on base, small firing hairlines in the form of a cross in interior, otherwise good condition
