Letter (James Ewell Brown Stuart, American Civil War Confederate General, 1833-1864), undated (possibly written in advance of the Battle of Brandy Station, Virginia, June, 1863), addressed to General Lomax, alerting of Union troop movements near Luray and Culpepper, Virginia, and instructing Lomax to position his troops accordingly, "...Have your command ready for the enemy's advance. A stiff upper lip is very important.," signed "JEB Stuart" as Major General, nineteen lines on one partial page, hand-written in brown ink on blue-lined laid paper; framed together with a [Carte-De-Visite,] modern Civil War print of General Stuart titled "Eyes of the Army," signed in pencil by Joe Umble, and brief biography, 6-3/4 x 7-3/4 in. (letter page), 37 x 34 in. (frame); modern wood frame letter tacked to mount at corners, not examined verso, light toning, fading, minor smudges, creases, minor tears at edges; [Carte-De-Visite] with toning, fading, foxing, abrasion; modern biography and print in good condition; frame with abrasions.
