Export Lacquered Tea Caddy
early 19th century: mahogany tea caddy with oval inlay on top, front and sides, two-compartment interior with inlaid covers, inlaid escutcheon, with key, 5 in., one compartment lacks metal lining, the other compartment cannot be opened, cracks and surface losses to veneer on cover; black-lacquered tea caddy, hinged cover with japanned scroll decoration in gold with tea plants figures with cut corners, buildings, stylized dragon border banding, interior with two pewter compartments with circular covers, inset well, carved and gilt foo dog feet, 6 in., losses to lacquer, gilding worn, one pewter cover lacking finial, both pewter tea boxes warped .
