(Wilkes Street Pottery, Alexandria VA, early to mid 1800s), jar with salt and slip glaze over small ovoid form, cobalt flourish decoration to front of jar, applied lug handles, and back of jar, angled down turned rim, impressed “Hugh Smith & Co” stamp at shoulder below impressed “1”, incised “W” on base, 9-1/4 in.. Condition: glaze voids and anomalies as made, firing dent to back of jar, large unstabilized star crack to entire back of jar, with associated chips, chips to one handle, large area of fluorescence to back of jar possibly due to accumulation of residue, surface wear chips and abrasions.
