.36 cal., 7-1/2 in. octagonal barrel, S/N 102497, all visible serial numbers match, manufactured 1861, cylinder engraved with scene of the Victory of the Second Texas Navy at the Battle of Campeche, May 16, 1843, brass trigger guard, grip strap and front blade sight, top of barrel marked "ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA", left side of receiver marked "COLTS PATENT", wood grips, with leather holster; Note: Firearm descended in the Clarke family. Carried by Elijah Lewis Clarke, born May 15, 1836, Charlotte Court House Virginia. Enlisted in July of 1861 with Company 1, (Charlotte Grays) of the 56th Regiment Virginia Infantry as 2nd Lieutenant. He resigned in 1862 then reenlisted in March of 1863 in the Goochland Light Artillery as Sergeant. He was captured at Fort Harrison, September 30, 1864. engraving on cylinder faint but still visible, brass on trigger guard below receiver with some silver plate still visible, drag mark on cylinder, hammer with light pitting and will not lock back, once cocked it snaps back, trigger and cylinder function properly, bluing on barrel still visible in some areas, mainly brown patina, wood grips with abrasion, dents and scratches,
