British, circa 1785, tripod form with three paneled legs with ram's head capitals and hoof feet, centered by a turned column entwined with serpents, supporting a swirl-fluted ornament and candelabra set with three candle arms with leaf-carved ornaments, 85 x 16-1/2 in., extensive restorations and retouch to snakes, break and repair below tassel finial, breaks and repairs at ankles with associated retouch, possible restorations to base, some cracks at lower ring, minor break and repair at one leaf tip on top,. Notes: This torchère appears to be identical to a pair in the Palladio room at Clandon Park, Surrey. Three additional similar pairs have been sold at Christie's and Sotheby's,1958 (lacking a candelabra), 1992 and 1994..
