New England, circa 1810, frame set with yellow and blue striped silk upholstery, scrolled arms with turned arm supports and legs, traces of early red stain, old dry surface, 34 x 76 x 28 in. - Provenance: Marguerite Riordan, Stonington Connecticut, with copy of invoice dated 1979 for $9000, describing it as "American sofa of exceptionally graceful form with fine condition and color. In cherry with pine and ash secondary... this is a fine and exceptional example of a New England Sheraton sofa. It has never been refinished."
