The Furietti Centaurs, a monumental Grand Tour pair, both signed on integral plinth "F. de Luca", patinated bronze, 60-1/8 in. and 53 in.
Note: These bronzes are 19th century copies of the two Roman (or Hellenistic) monumental marble versions excavated at Hadrian's Villa in December 1736 by Monsignor Giuseppe Alessandro Furietti. The antiques now reside at the Capitoline Museum. These bronzes were a popular subject for collecting in both the 18th and 19th century Grand Tour periods.
