Cameroonian, Western Grassfields area, possibly 20th century, Babanki style, comprising: two pairs of carved wood architectural panels, figures holding leopards by the tails, shorter pair 29 x 5-1/2 x 4-1/4 in., longer pair 58 x 6 x 4 in.; four carved wood finials, possibly taken from panels, leopard heads surmounted by human heads, each approximately 7-1/4 x 4 x 4-1/2 in. - Provenance: Property from a Private Collection Sold to Benefit The University of Georgia Foundation

Condition

surface dirt layer and accretion, scattered bumps, chips, and losses throughout, some cracks and separations throughout; panels with some old nails present; one longer panel with large separation verso, one longer panel with breaks and losses to figures' feet and leopards' ears; leopard finials with some minor holes/possible pest damage
