Fabric Lined Bedroom Set attributed to Michelangelo Guggenheim, Venice Italy, 1890, retailed by Tiffany Glass & Decorating Company, New York, carved and gilt wood comprising a double bed with headboard, footboard and rails, two bedside cabinets and a drop-front chest, each with inset black moire fabric panels, the headboard adorned with phoenix figures on fluted columns joined by a foliate carved arch, the footboard with similar decoration with recumbent sphinx figures, label on verso "A.G. SANTE ANTIQUES, Fine Furniture, 225 So. Wabash Ave., Chicago Illinois,", 57-3/8 x 52 x 74-1/2 in.; bedside cabinets with carved circles on door fronts and palmate frieze concealing a single drawer, paw feet, 33-1/2 x 23-3/4 x 17-1/2 in.; the drop-front commode with carved arch and palmate frieze concealing two drawers, six interior drawers with classical bust pulls, resting on recumbent sphinx figures, 36-3/4 x 64 x 27-5/8 in.; with an archival photo of the bed and side cabinets, stamped on the front "Louis C. Tiffany & Co" and to the back "Return to Tiffany Brass and Decorating Co., 333-341 Fourth Avenue, New York" and bearing the label "STABILIMENTO ARTISTICO M GUGGENHEIM VENZIA", and numbered "55"; also accompanied by a "Heritage Decorative Arts and Design" catalog dated March 20, 2011, Beverly Hills, lot 66296

gilding largely obscured by later gold paint, scattered stains and minor tears to fabric including some tears at top of commode, loss to one of the sphinx foot of commode, fabric likely replaced, headboard fabric front with tears, back with deterioration, scattered minor losses to molding including to door at one bedside, cracks and separations to some laminations
