New England, probably 18th century, rare diminutive form, deeply shaped oval top in tiger maple with two drop leaves, finely turned base with slender ring and baluster turnings, original turned feet, single dovetailed drawer with pine secondary, 26-1/2 x 11-1/2 x 31-1/4 in., opens to 40-1/4 in.ÿ - Note: This table is illustrated in Wallace Nutting's 1928 Furniture Treasury, number 947. A handwritten note found in the drawer records that the table was bought from Israel Sack in the late 1950s or early 1960s by Earl F. Slick of Texas, founder of Slick Airways, in 1945.ÿ - Provenance: Pioneer American collector Helen Temple Cooke (1865-1955); Probably with Israel Sack, New York, circa 1960; Estate of James Frank Dennis, High Point, North Carolina

Condition

While this table appears to be very intact, but the later distressed paint makes clear dating and condition assessment difficult. Hinges and feet appear original, central drawer support likely replaced. The drawer is period and intact. There is minor warping to the leaves. Topÿhas been removed for exam and is likely a replacement.
